What are rich pins?

Rich pins are meta data used by Pinterest that adds extra (important info) to your pins. For a products based shop like you and me, this means showing the price, description and even the reviews right in the pin.

This makes it easier and more relevant for a potential customer because they don't need to search around for this info.

It also helps you show up in more relevant searches on Pinterest and outside search engines.

Below is an example of a recipe rich pin. The main highlight is that it shows the ingredients right there. So it saves you time before you click over to the site for the full recipe. Don't have the ingredients? Don't waste time clicking.

The next example is one of my products which shows the description. Not sure why the price doesn't show, but that's okay for now.

And here is what an Etsy rich pin looks like:

How to install rich pins

If you have any of these sites, you already have rich pins installed :)

  • Etsy
  • Squarespace
  • Ebay
  • Shopify

If you have Woocommerce like me

Enabling rich pins is pretty simply when you have the YoastSEO plugin installed

Make sure you've claimed your website on Pinterest, then click the Yoast SEO plugin, then click social, then click the Facebook tab and make sure add open-graph meta data is enabled.

Once this is complete, you'll need to apply for and validate your rich pins on Pinterest. I recommend using the full URL of one of your products. You only need to enter 1 URL to validate your entire website.
